Taking on the role of Financial Representative of BES for a second term (having previously been in office from 2015-2017) has brought unforeseen challenges. Thankfully, my experience as an Insolvency Practitioner has helped me find the best overall solutions, which I believe will benefit the community as a whole.
As detailed in the Finance Update Report, the community has seen modest membership subscription rises compared to larger expense increases over the last decade. We’ve implemented a plan to utilise reserves, raise subscription rates, and cut costs to stabilise finances for a sustainable future.
Members’ response has been overwhelmingly positive and supportive. We held a Community Conversation to discuss the Update Report and a similar session during the June AGM.
We continue to assist those unable to contribute at main rates. Collection rates have improved, aged debtors reduced, and costs cut whilst maintaining BES’s wonderful services, events, and programming where reasonable.
With my co-Honorary Officers, we’ve introduced detailed budgets and are learning what works well. We’re making necessary improvements for ourselves and future lay leadership.
Though not glamorous, this role is important and fulfilling. I encourage anyone interested to contact me about getting involved.
Before I sign off, I must thank the office team for the tremendous amount of hard work they put in to help run BES, and a particular thanks to Margaret for all her help with the finance and membership subscription matters.
Shabbat Shalom and happy holidays!
Avner Radomsky
Financial Representative
